Academic Background:
Prof. Irit Akirav is director of the Learning and Memory lab in the University of Haifa. She obtained her PhD in Psychology at the Department of Psychology at the University of Haifa and her postdoc at the Neurobiology Department at the Weizmann Institute. She joined the University of Haifa in 2006 with “Alon” fellowship and since 2019 she is a full professor.

Research Interests:
Her research focuses on the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in stress, memory and plasticity. One of the main interests in the lab is studying the brain mechanisms underlying the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and other stress-related disorders.
